Re: Standup Reports

We did a last push with the ultimate goal to have the 2.0 final release up and running before the end of the year. As a result, we are very pleased to present the ImpressCMS 2.0.0 Release Candidate.

This is the result of a huge amount of tests, both on PHP 7.4 and PHP 8.4, and we managed to get the content module up and running under the latest version of PHP as well.

Next up will be making sure as many modules as possible will be compatible with ImpressCMS 2.0, but that will not keep back the release of the 2.0 Final in the next few days (unless we encounter some breaking bugs with this Release candidate.

The modules that are used on the impresscms website will get priority for the compatibility treatment, both to be compatible with ImpressCMS 2 and PHP 8.4.

Some major accomplishments this last month of the year. I've finally found the reason why the content module was treating me to these maddening white pages on PHP 8. That means the content module is now ready for some serious testing in the new environment.

And why not go all the way : I'm currently testing the ImpressCMS 2 core on PHP 8.4. We should be able to go live supporting the latest PHP release.

We're coming up on the end of the year - boy that went fast! We're focusing on getting a release ready and out to ring in the new year. There are a couple of things still to hammer out and only 1 show-stopper we know of (CSS elements that need to be added into the theme from icms.css, which has been removed)

There are a few more issues to resolve before the next beta release - some of the system blocks won't display, and some of the system settings (WYSIWYG editor permissions, viewing debug) aren't applying properly. The fixes are pretty straightforward and I'm about ready to submit the pull request. In addition to these updates, I've been working on some other modules that will need some updates to be error free and compatible with 2.0.0 and PHP7/8. These are affecting me because I'm prepping to move several sites to a new host and PHP5.6 won't be an option there (and I'm not going to try to make it an option). While testing the modules and debugging some things, I have to make sure it is in the module and not in the core, which takes a bit longer. Here in the U.S. we're getting ready for Thanksgiving and we get rather busy with food, family, and friends. I hope you all are going to be able to have time with your family and friends, too.
