Re: Improving the way forum notifications are sent on Community

Good idea.

However, the name of the forum is included in the message itself, at the end. For example:

But we could add a prefix to the subject to make it more clear that it comes from ICMS Community Forums. Although the message comes from "ImpressCMS Community"...

But we could also add "ICMS Community" before the subject.

Thoughts ?

I agree with this - without an indication the email notification is from the forum, it looks like a regular email. I'd like to see something that indicated the email was from the forum, and which forum, but I also realize the subject line could be quite long. When I look at my Blackberry, I only see 20 characters as the subject until I open the message and see the entire subject line.

Good work Marc. Even though I don't use notifications in the forums I like the new one more.

Re: Improving the way forum notifications are sent on Community

It is! Thank you for that.

Sometimes one doesn't notice the possible changes unless they are made.

Re: Improving the way forum notifications are sent on Community

Tweaked it a bit more. Here is the new one:

Improving the way forum notifications are sent on Community

Hi everyone,

I have edited the code of this very site to improve the way notifications are sent by our forum. Originally, notifications would look like:

Quote:

Subject: Support Forums auto-notify : New post in thread

Hello marcan,

A new post has been added to the topic "Re: Addons categories".

This is not very friendly for people wishing to read what's happening in the forum from their cell phones.

Even more, if using a mail client "threaded friendly" like Gmail, all the notifications would appear under the same thread in your email client, even if from different forums or forum threads. This is because the subject of the notification is always the same, and let's agree, not very useful

So from now, when you subscribe to any notification on our forum, here is an example of what you would receive!

Subject: The real subject of the forum thread!

Re: Reorganizing the forums

Good idea; there was too much forum categories

Re: Reorganizing the forums

Thanks for helping with this!

One of the reasons we did this was to make it easier for those that want email alerts of new posts - now there aren't so many forums to monitor and you can get posts of interest to you without a lot of other posts.

This is also designed to help bring more of the developer discussions to the forums and increase their visibility and history.

Reorganizing the forums

Hi,

After discussions with the team, we have made a few slight changes in our actual forums.

First, we had 5 forums for Development. This is too many forum for the same thing! So we merged them into 2 forums:

* Development
* Releases feedback

The Addons site category has also been reorganizes, merging forums like Libraries, Editors, QuickStart Packs and Documentation into a single forum called Other Addons. Template Category was also merged into Themes Category, renamed into Themes and Templates Category.

Also, the Installation forum and the Upgrades and Migration forum were merged into a single forum, as really, it's all the same thing .

Finally, the order of the categories have been re-arranged for easier access.

Hope this helps !

Re: Need help installing modules!

Sounds like your not using the ftp the right way.

http://www.oldversion.com/download_WS_FTP_LE_6.html

Try logging into you website with this. Then tell us what the folder names are?

Need help installing modules!

Please,

Can someone direct me on how to properly install an impress module??

I am trying to install an image gallery module called 'XSGAL' and everyone says it's "easy" to install and I'm supposed to just UPLOAD the folder saying "XSGAL' after extracting it, to my "modules" directory during FTP... but I can't.

I think I'm not installing the installation folder to the proper directory on my web site... During the FTP process I transfer the module folder to a directory folder I see named "www/modules" and the installation doesn't go through or transfer, whereas when I log on as administrator, I don't see the module to install in the CMS!

Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Am I supposed to do something before transfering the installation folder via FTP?

what php version do we use here?

Could disable all the extras - like skins, and the options.

anywho - we will figure it out.

I dunno about binary mode - added it to the svn repo and then did svn co (because svn client had been updated on the sites) and then cp to copy the files to the live folders.

As far as PHP goes, we are running 5.2.9

now could send 12 msgs with text: msg1 msg2 msg3 and so on.
msg13 didnt show up. when i look at the lenght of all messages:
msg1msg2msg3msg4msg5msg6msg7msg8msg9msg10msg11msg12
then i'd say the last time i tried the chat it stopped working after quite this lenght of text. maybe the error is in some kind of memory or max char restriction. just a guess though.

edit: i always hit enter after each msg, not the send button. i guess its not the enter or send button causing the problem.

edit2: it stopps after 53 chars. seemingly every time after 53chars, no matter if entering 1-enter 2-enter etc. or just 53chars in one line.
edit3: sry, wrong alert, now it stopped after 27chars. two times it seemed to stop at 53... sry... maybe its just insufficient phpmemory??
or spam detection without notice?

last test for the moment showed that when text does not show up, it takes about 30sec till new input gets listed.
here my bit boring selftest(i typed sentences to see if its a spamdetection maybe:
Welcome! You have entered [Weekly Meeting] at 11:16 pm
[63RD] 11:16 pm: good nice chat text
[63RD] 11:16 pm: this seems to be the right way to chat in icms
[63RD] 11:16 pm: very cool and nice looking tingy
[63RD] 11:17 pm: now, it seems that it does work, maybe there is a
spam detection
[63RD] 11:17 pm: when typing ordinary text and not just junk,
maybe the chat notices this
[63RD] 11:17 pm: wow, this time it does not seem to stop
[63RD] 11:17 pm: but no idea how this will work on heavy load
[63RD] 11:18 pm: until now, its far more than 53 charcakters
[63RD] 11:18 pm: ok, new try after 30secs
[63RD] 11:19 pm: and now, it doesnt.
[63RD] 11:20 pm: hm, it works when waiting a bit
[63RD] 11:20 pm: it seems
[63RD] 11:20 pm: cool
[63RD] 11:20 pm: again, it stops sometimes
[63RD] 11:20 pm: and then, after 10secs
[63RD] 11:21 pm: hmm, no idea, its more than 30 now.
[63RD] 11:22 pm: ok, works again
[63RD] 11:22 pm: nice
[63RD] 11:22 pm: but strange
[63RD] 11:22 pm: it goes again
[63RD] 11:22 pm: and on
[63RD] 11:22 pm: and on
[63RD] 11:22 pm: and on
[63RD] 11:22 pm: and on
[63RD] 11:22 pm: andon
[63RD] 11:22 pm: addon
[63RD] 11:23 pm: strange

ok, i'll stop messing up this thread, but maybe someone gets an idea why this could black out sometimes.
