Re: Chat might not be working right.

I changed the theme to navy blue (or something) yesterday and I got 100% of the messages in.
Instead of hitting [ENTER] i hit the send button.
Some of the times I hit [ENTER] and the messages still got in the chat ok.

Re: Chat might not be working right.

Yep flash chat and there was only three of us. I will try to use the send button the next time some people are in the room.

Re: Chat might not be working right.

You mean on the new flashchat, correct?
We had the same issues yesterday.
After a while it went away. It could also have been when many people where talking at the same time that the problem occurred.

What I did to prevent some messages disappearing is that I used to click on the "Send" button instead of [ENTER]
Worked for me, but it's a lame workaround.

Chat might not be working right.

I was chatting with Steve and David last night when I noticed some issues. All of my posts were not getting thru. I am not sure if it is related to permissions or if it was a time issue. Meaning that I could only post every minute and that anything before that would be cast out into the great wide open.

Re: Our trac sites are down.

It works. Thx!

Re: Our trac sites are down.

I'm trying to make a ticket but can not login.
Checked my username and pwd, but I'm typing the right characters...

Is this related to the item in this topic?

Re: Wf-downloads seems to be breaking my .zip files.

This looks to be worth a try...does this mean I can download the xoops_version.php from this site and replace the one on mine?? Will this negate the work I've already done on the database? Sorry to seem like a total blockhead here but I really know nothing about code and have been working like mad to get this site up and running properly.

Re: Wf-downloads seems to be breaking my .zip files.

This is a bit of a mystery as i've had the same problem trying to open downloaded .zip files from my site and opening them with ie8 on winxp as well as using 7-zip(my favorite) and archive manager in Ubuntu. Ubuntu archive manager reports the following log entry:

[/home/larry/Desktop/1hbov10.zip]
End-of-central-directory signature not found. Either this file is not
a zipfile, or it constitutes one disk of a multi-part archive. In the
latter case the central directory and zipfile comment will be found on
the last disk(s) of this archive.
zipinfo: cannot find zipfile directory in one of /home/larry/Desktop/1hbov10.zip or
/home/larry/Desktop/1hbov10.zip.zip, and cannot find /home/larry/Desktop/1hbov10.zip.ZIP, period.

Every zip file I have tried before sending up opens fine, then corrupts on download. Should I be asking my isp to restart apache? at least that is what I got from the last post you sent me to.

hi!

i saw this in svn:
m0nty_: bugfix: unexpected $end in visit.php fixed: unable to open downloaded zip …

maybe your problem is fixed when using files from here.

hope that helps,

bye!

Wf-downloads seems to be breaking my .zip files.

Bit of a newbie here but WF-Downloads seems to be breaking my .zip files on download. I've looked for an answer to the problem on google and cant seem to find an answer. So far this is the only filetype that this occurs on. below are listed the mimetypes I have listed in the .zip mymetypes.

application/zip application/x-zip application/x-zip-compressed application/octet-stream application/x-compress application/x-compressed multipart/x-zip

and I'm trying to download ebooks but an error message pops up when I download the file saying the file is corrupted. Can someone point me in the right direction please.

Re: The New ICMS

I think both of you are right in your analysis. But in a web like this (impresscms.org), in my opinion it must prevail the design.

Why?

Because this web is the "shop window" that shows what can get a user that wants to create a web if he chooses impresscms.

The user (as me) has his contents yet, and he is looking for the best an the nicer wrapper.

What would you think about a designer who wasn´t in the style? Would you sign up him?

Re: The New ICMS

I started posting about the philosophy and vision of ImpressCMS and decided to stay on topic, though justanumber does bring up some interesting points.

How important is the visual presentation of a web page compared to the content of the page or the architecture of the site? Well, that depends. Are you viewing the site in a browser, on a portable device, or aggregating posts to an RSS reader? Since cell phones have outnumbered computers for a very long time, consumption of web content will definitely see a shift towards mobile viewing sooner or later. Common to all these is the W3C validation, feed validation and Section 508 validation. No matter how you consume web content, there is a standard to follow that ensures readability by all standards compliant consumers (browsers, aggregators, etc). Will has invested his expertise to provide us with this.

How are you encountering the site? Is it a site you have bookmarked and visit frequently, did you find the site through a referring page, did you click on a link in a search engine result page or a social networking site? Did someone send you a link through Twitter or email? In this case, the content and content organization is key. They want to hear what we have to say because we (potentially) solve a problem for them. This has nothing to do with visual presentation, but everything to do with what content we present on our landing pages. We also need to be aware of the origin of our visitors, something else that's been rolling around in my head for a core feature, module, or block.

Initially, the visual impression of the site gets peoples attention. But, they soon abandon that for the content they are seeking. As long as the design does not impede discovery, it can be effective.

Whew! Not quite a concrete evaluation of the new theme, but some background into what we think about as we develop our brand, products, and sites.

Re: The New ICMS

This will be some general thoughts

In general design is taking more and more space from functionality. People spend more and more money on big screens... to see better and get better views... which is then flooded with more and more graphics that do not improve the sites, merrely making them "nice".

A picture can however tell a thousand words, but many homepages use standard pictures that do NOT illustrate anything special about the site. Sometimes even communicating felelings in contradiction to the site purpose. The web this way becomes a kind of "standard picture porridge". Some websites today are crowded with ~30% advertising and another 30% is non-communicative graphics. Boarders, waves, frames, stars, odd text fields and mismatching layouts. It is not often we see websites that have less graphics and more functionality. Personaly I think this trend in some small part hurts the web by creating a low qualitative "look-nice-land".

What I think about the new look? It looks nice.

I like to rais one little question: This open CMS software is called "ImpressCMS". What does the name communicate? What do you like to communicate about the name and the software?

"ImpressCMS" gives me the feeling of a distinguished sober, organized and strong software. The logo also communicates most of that (although not impressive though).
