Re: Impresstheme

The browser issues are a pain in the butt. I previously reported in another thread issues with IE6, etc. Some of it appears to have to do with screen resolution, as well, in some places (the hospital where I work).

For my site, I just posted a statement that we would no longer aim for display on old browsers (I won't broadcast it, but if there's an easy fix to a browser issue, then I'll make it). For my clientele, many of them are sight impaired, etc. I will use the method that makes the site the most accessible it can be, which, IMO, means a newer, more standards-compliant browser.

Just looking at the new theme - impress_light - makes the site look so much better and more readable that I will no longer allow those clunky old browsers to adversely impact folks who really want to get good information and are trying to use good browsers to get it.

Removed Padding Change in layout.css

Safari - No change. The right column continues to slide down beyond the center column in Safari.

Firefox - no significant difference

Right-margin 180 to 190 change and removed padding

Safari - Right column is exactly where it's supposed to be

Firefox - Right column block titles are too far off to the right hand side.

I have no idea if this helps but I hope it does.

Re: Impresstheme

I've applied Snow's changes, removed padding-left and set margin-right to -190px.
The right column looks good in Opera now and does so in IE7.
Only in FireFox the right column isn't correctly placed, a little bit to far to the right.

Maybe it's not an Opera issue but a FireFox issue?

Guess a Mac Stylesheet will solve the problems for all browsers

I discovered it has to do with the margin in #xo-canvas-rightcolumn in the layout css:

#xo-canvas-rightcolumn { float: right; width: 170px; padding-left: 5px; margin-right: -180px; }

I think padding-left is not needed since it seems to look well in all browsers by erasing this.

And for the right column problem in Opera, changing margin right to -190px it looks ok, but just for Opera, in other broswers it goes too far right like this.

sigh... I imagine iTheme will have the same issues across these browsers.

Looking into a solution today. Perhaps we could just import a mac stylesheet to fix all the problems at once. I will post back later with results.

Re: Impresstheme

I am very unhappy with the way IE7 render spacing of paragraphs and breaks, it seems quite different from Firefox. Waste my time, why don't they collaborate and make browsers that have consistent behaviour?

This is really suck Will.

I hate this. And this problem is not only about the css. Im using much javascript and dhtml code and this make me crazy to adapt the code for several browsers.

More than likely we will have to create a .mac stylesheet. Since Opera uses webkit, like, safari, I am sure this is a mac issue.

Webkit still has not finished implementing support for CSS2, while most other engines are already mostly done with CSS3 support.

man, am I the only one who is sick of all these different browsers?

Just opened my local impressCMS 1.o final website with Opera 9.26 and noted that the blocks in the right column are all moved to the bottom of the page, see picture.

In the center column is a blank gap where the blocks in the right column starts.

In IE7 and FF2013 it looks ok.

yeah, old browsers, and machines do not really do well with table-less design.

I did some testing on my computer.

Safari the right column drops down below the bottom of the center column.

IE7 - Looks great.

Firefox 3 Beta - Looks and works fine.

Re: Impress Light with IE6

Thanks for the explanations about tortoise. I used to have it installed but there hasn't been much use to me for it for a while now until recently.

I uploaded it and the theme looks much improved. It appears that what I reported earlier happens on lower resolution computers. It will Monday until I get to see my site on the hospital computers. At that time I will update how it looks. For the moment - if it's possible to have improved on the theme - it looked really great before, it's even better now.

Thanks

you have to download it with tortoise if you are trying to get it from svn.

Re: Impress Light with IE6

Before I uploaded to my site, I noticed the directory structure is different in the SVN than in my previous impress light them. Is the directory structure supposed to be different?

Before:
css/
icons/
img/
modules/
modules/system/
xotpl/
index.html
theme.html

After (as appears in SVN right now):
icons/
img/
modules/
modules/system/
blocks.css
blockszone.html
centerblocks.html
content.css
index.html
layout.css
style.css
theme.html

Is this new directory structure correct before I upload it?

Thanks!

[EDIT]
I went ahead and uploaded what was in svn into my site. I figured I could just revert if it wasn't right. I uploaded, cleared cache and templates then the administration pages started - for whatever reason - redirecting to the sourceforge svn page. alls fine, just wanted to let you know.

Nice looking.

You may want to contact siteground about releasing ports of their themes.

If at all else it will help them to notice iCMS.
