Easy, just download the free VMWare server for ubuntu and run windows inside of that. You won't even have to reboot to boot Windows. Pretty soon you'll only be running windows for your games if that's your thing. I don't play games so need for Windows.

Re: Linux!, The more I use it, The more it grows on me.

Vaughan,

Nice work. I have been strictly Ubuntu at home for 6 months now and I can do everything, and more, that I could previously do in Windows. If you want to make it even easier on yourself switchto Ubuntu. I swear to god it's the best damned thing since sliced bread. They have automatic updates, packages for just about software and driver out there and the forums are absolutely AMAZING!

Go search for your problem with Amarok on ubuntuforums.org and come back and tell me how long it took to find your answer...I'll buy you enough beer (good beer at that) to get enebriated again if it takes you longer than 30 minutes.

I was Google chatting with Sailjapan one morning and he said "Seth do you have an IRC client"? I said no but give me a couple of minutes and I will. You go to Synaptics package manager and search for "IRC", BOOM, IRC client in 2 minutes installed and functional. PHP, MySQL, Apache, no problem, always updated and always easy to work with on Ubuntu.

Their version naming is awesome as well. Right now we are on version 7.10...Guess when it was released? October of 2007. It is also nicknamed "Gutsy Gibbon" which followed "Feisty Fawn". Do you see the pattern? I know its kind of lame that I like that so much but I think it's aswesome and so friggin' simple.

Anyway, you will be so happy once you get it going.

Incidentally, I run our Oracle ERP system on Linux at work. Our databases are mounted on a Network Appliance storage device via an NFS mount over standard Gigabit ethernet. All of the consultants and traditional IT folks told me I was crazy trying to do this but I had investigated this setup extensively and it works absolutely flawlessly. No doing that on Windows I guarantee you that!

One day I also find me in the arms of linux. This day is increasingly close.

Good luck in your new journey into Linux.

Linux!, The more I use it, The more it grows on me.

I've tried it in the past on a few occasions, but this time I seem to be holding out a bit more & persevering a bit more.

It's mostly new to me other than a few basics etc and the odd few hours i've played with it in the past.

I am of course talking about the death of MS windows & the rise to power of Linux (well at least in my household anyway).

got fed up of virii getting past my antivirus on windows and various other issues that kept me busy quite a lot, random crashes, lock ups, freezing for ages, and damn slow file transfer speeds & network congestion.

so i took the plunge again, and this time I completely obliterated windows (even though the obliteration of windows was an accidental action caused by my insane stupidness in trying to install linux whilst tired & enebriated), i should have realised that when it said it was formatting sda1 drive that it had automaticly selected the empty disc drive (drive d in windows, which i presumed would have been sdb1 due to c: drive having the bootstrap), but anyway regardless of losing 300gb of music and work related stuff (some of which i hadn't yet backed up again.. blah blah yeah i know BACKUP it's the 1 thing i tell everyone to do but always put off doing it myself) but anyway it's too late to dwell on it as the files are gone :(

so onto linux, and the distribution i chose (out of simplicity really & the fact that i just happened to have a dvd copy of opensuse 10.3) so installed opensuse.

after a few headaches of trying to figure out how the hell i would get dual displays working on my nvidia 8600 card, i decided to browse the internet, and low and behold, i managed to get some decent correct drivers for my card from a source non other than nvidia.com, yeah yeah, i should know that would be the place to start.. did i say i was a bit enebriated?

took me a further hour or 2 to finally get videos and audio to passthru the optical spdif so that i could use the 2nd best love of my life (yeah it's my sound system i'm talking about.. I love music & i love sound quality over loudness. although my neighbours may argue with me over that remark :lol )

but does anyone know how to make amarok and other media players to automatically use spdif so that my mp3's can be passed thru the spdif? seems they don't want to play, only the video players seem to use the spdif.

also is there a way that I can connect my xbox 360 to linux so that i can use media sharing like i can thru windows with the 360??

and the last question..

is 5TB of NAS storage space too much for 1 household.. lol (my workmates can't understand why i need so much space.. lol) so far I've used 2.5TB of space already.

X-IPB 1.4 to CBB Import Script

well it seems there are still plenty of people after this little script, but where to find it?

It was posted on xoopsforge for me by David a long time ago, so i thought i'd post it here for ease of people trying to find it.

can someone who has posting rights on xoops.org please inform the users in this topic on xoops.org of where they can find this script.

the script can be downloaded from http://www.g7poo.co.uk/uploads/import.php.zip

Re: Plagiarism

I added the .htaccess - so if you just tried it, it will be working now.

As we've our error page handling activated, attempting to access a forbidden page will come up with an error message now.

But I think it could be better if you use this securing method...

I completely agree, I tried to access the folder here myself to see it was secure and it redirected back... so unless I typed it wrong they wouldn't be able to access the folder...
NEVERTHELESS, the redirect method DOES NOT WORK, reason?
one can access /themefolder/theme.html and either save it through browser or use download manager programs to get the files...
Best way, is to use the .htaccess file just like stranger said...
Now the more important thing is that even though you can block theme.html access, the user can simply access the script using "view source" button (right click). Then they can copy the code to an html editor, remove the actual data and start inserting Xoops tags. This method needs more effort, but still is the posibility...
I saw a website with view source code disabled (protected) by using Iframe... another one was even more impressive... the whole source code was 5 lines nothing else. All of their source code was made up of astrics and the name of the person. Now we can try to do these stuff, but will it meet open source standards, I don't know.

Re: Plagiarism

lol... I'm afraid they are much more ruder than you think... as I said they simply ignored the messages and gave me a link to send a message from their website... which doesn't make any sense, because I already told them that they should have given creadit to ImpressCMS comunity...

Re: Plagiarism

I just went to the problematic site http://www.xoopsdesign.ir/. To save you guys 1 click, here is, attached to this post, a screenshot of their site.

This definatly brings some ethical questions, and I understand it may be very frustrating for the people who have worked very hard to create the theme for community.impresscms.org.

Unfortunately, as you have mentioned, there is very little we can do about this. The ImpressCMS Project has stated from the very beginning, that we don' believe in wars and fights. We believe in creation, innovation, community building, code development.

Let the others do what they believe is acceptable, and let's our project live by our own standards.

And from another perspective, having our work copied only says one thing: we did something good ! Now let's keep heading in that direction and when people copy us again, it will only be for us another motivation to do even better !

Re: Plagiarism

OK, after writing an extensive message to the webmasters of irxoops.org (who are webmasters of Xoopsdesign.ir), they refuse to change the theme. They also threatened to ban me as well. Interestingly, they call them selves designers while they simply steal other people's work and in other words they plagiarize.
Anyway, I suggest try giving irxoops a warning or bring the issue to the Xoops community(Publicly ask them to remove it), ... or if anyone has any other solutions to this we can try it...
