Yes, it'd be great if we could do something like that!
these packages could be facilitated by using composer in the near future : http://community.impresscms.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=5428&forum=55&post_id=48076#forumpost48076

We're just working on modules packs. We would pack-in iforum with umfrage, but iforum is optimized for xoopspoll now. Are there any plans to integrate umfrage?
Been rather delayed with health and far too much work over the past few months - but with the recent topics, I'm going to kick-start this taking into account the modules already packaged with the core.
I'll have an updated list in the next day, and I intend to get the first content package ready for testing by this time next week.
Cool, it would be interesting to see this alpha pack, so we can put it through the wringer
I haven't shelved the module packs - i've just had a few other issues come up in the meantime to sort out.
So, for now, I've bounced a few ideas around with some fellow users and come up with a small QuickStart pack of useful modules...

I'm hoping to put an "alpha" version of this together tonight/tomorrow for people to test ... and if it's agreeable - perhaps we can offer this as an option for people to download together with the core package?
Feedback always appreciated :)
For this release of iforum, no poll module has been integrated. I hardly doubt that xoopspoll is working anyway.
Same for umfrage. If any poll module is going to be integrated it will be an IPF version.

A little later then planned, but I've put a selection together for the content pack - which I'll make available for anyone who wants to test them along
I've split them into two versions... "lite" - with only a few key modules, and "extended" - with a larger selection
Content Pack : 4th September 2011
All current releases as of revision 22552

*Banners - I've added to the list as the "legacy" function is due to be removed in 1.4 ... so it's a good idea to get people used to using the new module instead.
** These modules also work with "tag" - unfortunately this currently doesn't work with 1.3 - it would be great if it's possible to either get tag working, or perhaps use "sprockets" tag function instead
*** At present only imblogging uses imtagging - as with the above, it would be great if it was possible to use the "sprocket" tag instead, as this would remove the need for the module
I'm going to be working on the other few packs in the next week - which has a rather different selection of modules.
Ok - hoping to have an "alpha" version of the Community pack update for release later today - ready for initial testing.
I'll work on the other ones over the next few days...
Being an "alpha" - I'll still be open for any changes due to testing results.
BTW: On that note, I need to decide on the best naming standard for the packs... not forgetting that they may need a more regular release then a normal module due to any of the individual ones being updated etc.
I have decided to put a readme file with each one, listing the svn commit version included in each one, and of course the version number, release date etc.
Any other thoughts appreciated.
Going back to this subject again - the German community has done further module testing, and I've now got a good set of listss - which I'll be posting a little later.
Initially - I'd like to prepare the 3 packs (with updated modules of course) pretty much as is... but when we have a clear idea of the modules we invision people using together - perhaps we can come up with small ways to improve their useage: documenation, template or code improvements etc... these of course could go back to the standard single release of the modules.
I definately agree that at some point getting them further updated to work better together would be a good idea...
I think the packs are a good start. Now, instead of just bundling the modules as-is, I believe we should enhance the pack by adding a configuration to the modules that makes them all work smoothly together.
I'm proposing the following changes:
Content Pack:
contact - replace with either contact_ipf or Mekdrops's Contact module
impression - update to latest version
multiMenu - no native alternative exists, so the original will be used
simplywiki - update to latest version
smartsection - is this required? Perhaps News_ipf instead?
smartobject - replace with sprocket if news_ipf replaces smartsection

Due to some time taken up with medical appointments over the last few months, I've fallen behind with this - and I've not spoken to QM-B for a while... so I'm hoping to hear from him so we can re-start this again asap.
Cool. Can you tell me which modules are in the pack?
