Re: Module blocks design info list

Blocks are handled by their own template, so in theory it's easy to make blocks in multi-columns. The thing is that the blocks exist within the canvas of the theme, and if you place your block in a part of your theme that isn't very wide, the block will be shown inside that space.

Re: Module blocks design info list

I think I remember seeing blocks with multi-column layout before, but I can't remember which ones. Might have been the old Spotlight module, or perhaps the old News module. It's not a common feature though. You could probably hack a block to do it by adding a couple more options in the block information section of icms_version.php (number of columns, length), adjusting the block function to slice the text into the number of columns you wanted, and modifying the template layout for that block.

Module blocks design info list

Can any one tell for module blocks in general if it is 1) possible to choose 1 or 2 col view? 2) If the fact from #1 is shown in block preferences? Just a thought.... Is there a complete blocks list somewere with layout-info like 1, 2 kol, text limits etc. With such a list a site can be pre-planned also away from computers. Greetings! .

Re: Powerthemes :: premade choice options

I've been playing with Bootstrap recently, trying to get a handle on the grid. I think it's a very good starting point for building a new theme, it makes my own efforts look positively primitive.

If only it came with a no-nonsense file uploader control.

Re: Powerthemes :: premade choice options

There are quite a bit of opportunities in the themes side to improve things. The companion module idea works, but it's not giving me the freedom I would like at the moment.

To Be Continued...

Re: Powerthemes :: premade choice options

the way ImpressCMS themes are handled is quite basic at the moment : you make a theme available by putting it in the right folder, and then it becomes elegible for using on the site (admin decides based on a multiselect list).
There is no theme configuration page available in the current way of working. At the moment I'm working around that restriction by creating a 'companion' module for the theme, and that companion module defines the special blocks and the specific configuration information for that theme.

I can't release what I have currently because it is based on a theme I purchased. I am thinking of turning the acquired knowledge on this work into a tutorial very soon (1 to 2 weeks)

Powerthemes :: premade choice options

Powerthemes
themes made with optional code lines (or similar) for fast alteration (and learning). Like buttons or lines that make fast choices. Themes that is made to be extra fast customizable :: CSS with optional code

I.E
Open line A and close B) makes column 1 dynamic (Open D, close E makes c 2 dynamic) etc... I remember I hade to do this in CSS, last time... could this be made by menu choice in the blockzone page or other setting?
(could this be part of blockzone page somehow?)

# Do you know of any Impresscms theme with transparent text areas, solid headers and 1-background-photo stretched and fixed. ... Tack /Thanks!

If there are changes in CSS handeling I may not have recogniced that yet...

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

I am using HTML. I wasn't sure which to pick, but since I know 0 PHP and only basic HTML, I chose it lol...

I used the <{$icms_url}>, it added wierd things like "&" into the link and caused a 404. Of course I know not to put a trailing slash in for a relative url.

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

This is still relative to the OP, so we're fine.

Yes, there is a variable you can use for the root URL to help with relative paths, especially if you are building in one path to be moved later.

The smarty tag is <{$icms_url}> and the PHP constant is ICMS_URL. You'll also need to be sure to have the proper directory separator in your path - neither of these have the trailing slash. What type of custom tag are you using - HTML, PHP or BB-codes?

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

Actually, I know what I'm doing wrong. I realized when I went out for a walk. I'm using a relative URL, which guess what, is relative to whatever page of the site I am on...

The only way I know to fix it is use an absolute URL. That will mean more work though when I actually move the site from the impress subdirectory to root.

Surely there has to be a better way. Isn't there a smarty tag that handles things like this? I took a look at the Smarty wiki enty, and I tried to add the one for site root infront of the module address, but of course that didn't work...

I'll keep looking at it as well, but if you know the answer and are able to help out there before hand I'd appreciate it. In the mean time, I changed out those links with absolute links so that they will at least work.

Oh, and I feel like I might be sidetracking from the Original Post here, might want to split the thread?

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

Greetings,

I've been working on adding pages as I work on migrating my site to my new impresscms site, and I discovered an oddity with the menu.

I can click on the created menu link, Forums for example, and it will work fine. But if I click on another link after using the forums link, it adds the other link onto the forums link giving me a wrong page.

For example (link to site warning: please remove if not allowed)
I am working on the impresscms version of the site at http://legendsofnorova.com/impress I have the forums set up (using the awesome custom tag idea) as modules/forum. I click on the menu link and it takes me to forum. I click on my other menu link for Encyclopedia Nor'Ova, which is linked to the impression module, and I'll get a 404 because it will add that link directly to the forum link instead of the home link.

I have my topmenu custom tag set up as follows:
DQo8IURPQ1RZUEUgaHRtbD4NCjxpPjxhIGhyZWY9Im1vZHVsZXMvZm9ydW0iPkZvcnVtczwvYT48L2k+DQo8aT48YSBocmVmPSJtb2R1bGVzL2ltcHJlc3Npb24iPkVuY3lsb3BlZGlhIE5vck92YTwvYT48L2k+DQo8L2h0bWw+DQo=

Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

I set up a @media rule in the bootstrap.css so that smart phones won't be hindered by my wrapper use.

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

This has been working out well! I still haven't gotten the search bar to move. I tried simply cutting the form and pasting it after the pull to the right user form, but it made it disappear. I put it back in for now and I guess I'll fuss with it some later.

Bur for right now I thought I'd share some progress. It was you that wanted to know about what I did with the icmsbootstrap theme, right skenow? Well, here's a screen shot of how it looks currently.

I still have more to do no doubt, but I am liking the results. And BTW, that custom tag idea is just awesome. Thought you should know.

Awesome!

Well I know what I'm going to be doing tomorrow. My annotated bibliography assignment isn't due until late Monday night anyway....

Now if only I could get my iforum issues solved, I'd be gold. Thanks man, you've been awesome.

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

We are quite proud of that feature!

To move the search field to the right of the navigation bar, you'll need to edit the theme.html file - grab the form element and move it to the next ul element, either at the beginning or the end, depending on your preference. Delete the files in template_c and refresh the page to see the changes.

Here's the section I'm talking about

DQo8Zm9ybSBtZXRob2Q9ImdldCIgYWN0aW9uPSI8eyRpY21zX3VybH0+L3NlYXJjaC5waHAiIGNsYXNzPSJuYXZiYXItc2VhcmNoIHB1bGwtbGVmdCI+DQoJPGlucHV0IHR5cGU9InRleHQiIHBsYWNlaG9sZGVyPSI8eyRzbWFydHkuY29uc3QuVEhFTUVfU0VBUkNIfT4iIGNsYXNzPSJzZWFyY2gtcXVlcnkgc3BhbjIiIG5hbWU9InF1ZXJ5IiAvPg0KCTxpbnB1dCB0eXBlPSJoaWRkZW4iIG5hbWU9ImFjdGlvbiIgdmFsdWU9InJlc3VsdHMiIC8+DQo8L2Zvcm0+DQo=

Here is the beginning of the ul that is the user menu items on the right side

DQo8dWwgY2xhc3M9Im5hdiBwdWxsLXJpZ2h0Ij4NCjx7aWYgISRpY21zX2lzdXNlcn0+IA0K

Personally, I would put it all the way at the end of that ul, so it is always in the same location. The user links change, based on their login status and group permissions.

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

That... that is bloody brilliant.

I am going to have to give it a try. Here's hoping I can get myself to first finish my assignments before plugging away at this...

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

Something you might appreciate for giving you some flexibility with those things in the theme you'd like to modify - I always convert them to custom tags.

Using custom tags allows you the ability to edit them from the administration area and not have to modify files. You can also have different text/html for each user groups - so anonymous visitors or users that aren't logged in see one thing and logged in users see another. Multi-language support is also available.

Re: How to change the top menu links in responsive themes such as icmsbootstrap theme

Greetings,

I have made headway with changing the top menu links for the icmsbootstrap theme, and I thought I'd share my progress.

I was able to change the links by first removing the hard coded links. I then simply replaced them with mine. I'll attach a screenshot so you can see.

I wasn't able to figure out how to use the menu module to do this. I still have some learning to do there. Also I have to say that my re-linking doesn't look as perfect as the original menu links. I'm sure though, given some time, I could get that all sorted out. But at least I got the basics done.

One thing, I haven't figured out how to keep the search bar in the right. It wants to be right next to my menu links. I am thinking about pulling it out for now and maybe linking to a search page, but I also kind of like the search field....
