The addons site is now back up, in a limited capacity (a list of current packages) until we finish the new site and design with @debianus.

Meanwhile the addons site replacement will be ready, you can get all available modules in

The site is in Spanish. In the search box you can find only modules by its name. In each module there are info about release, dependencies, screenshots (imagenes) and changelog (historial). Download is "Descargar"

You know what would really help... if we added "tag" support to wf-downloads.

I've moved those two categories into subdirectories - Editors to "Misc" and Templates to "Themes"

We can definately delete them if if you wish?

Totally agree with the tags - it's something really could do with being added.

Vaughan? Any chance of it being added to wf-d 3.3?

Editors - I'll move this to Archive then, templates.. perhaps as a subdirectory on Themes for now... ?

I would remove the templates and editors categories.

For themes, it would be great if we could have tagging implemented. That way, you can have several tags applied at the same time, like 'blue', '2 column', 'sport', 'mobile'.

Making a start today on some updates of the Addons site.. but obviously I'd like to get some feedback on some things first:

Editors: - is this category still required? We've pretty much reduced the editors supplied with the core to TinyMCE and FCKEditor - and I think FCK is perhaps not going to be there forever?

Is it worth removing this category now and removing this option?

Themes: - any ideas on how we can organise the themes better?

I don't think the original categories of:
-Animals Themes
-Anime Themes
-Corporate Themes
-Entertaiment Themes
-Gaming Themes
-Nature Themes
-Occasions Themes
-Sports Themes
-Misc Themes
are ideal.

(Also we could do with a demo of these themes in action - but thats another thing!)

Templates: - not really used, the single item in there at present is really a theme. Should this be moved to themes as a subcategory?

I think so, too. For the basic order it would be better to organize like they do. With some more categories (like requirements->framework, Release-Candidates/Finals or something like this) we could filter whatever we want to.
The same of course for themes, templates...
@McDonald: any way to implement these category functions to wfdownloads, too?
Or does anyone have an idea how to handle this with the current functions of the module?

Some good ideas there - we've had a few threads for ideas about addons... started by Underdog and fiammybe

There's a few ideas we discussed including:

Grading the modules on their compatibility
Grading the modules on their requirements (libraries, frameworks etc)
Looking for required modules where no compatible ones exist
and so on....

The downloads area on ImpressCMS.de is very good - and I think we can adopt some of the ideas there as well.

I've a few ideas I need to post on this later.

I'm not pretty sure, but I think I read a threat about this somewhere. Now you're setting up a new final release. You're talking about the redesign of impresscms.org. I think, bleekk is workin on the redesign.

According to all these news, what about re-organising the addons-part? Move the old final releases to a special section (maybe a section for 1.1.x-modules, 1.2.x-modules and 1.3.x-modules..) and make subsections for content-modules, contact-modules, community-modules and so on. (closed to the solution on impresscms.de!) So we could write something about the modules, make a new download-part for modules, which are tested and got a final-release for 1.3. There are some really old modules, I'm not sue, if anyone tested them anywhere.
By this way it would be much simplier for new users, which are searching for running modules for the current Version. I would help to test the modules for compatibilyty, work on the language-files and I would write about the module (what a kind of module?, how to handle the module? ...) For the moment it's really difficult for new users, which are just jumping in working with ICMS to find working modules.

Considering themes, I think the way they solved that with Wordpress is quite nice. You can make selections of several requirements for your theme (number of columns, color scheme, with or without javascript, etc...) and then you get the results.

Something like that might come in handy once we have much more themes available. But let's think about that after 1.8

Consider an end user for a moment.

Every subcategory that we create is another area in which they will need to traverse.

So Let us discuss themes

Categorization of themes is a shot in the dark at best - currently they are categorized in such categories as "Animals" which really has more to do with the designers choice in a header image than anything.

Anywho - every time we create a subcategory that is whole new paginated group of unrelated themes that a user must try and traverse to see them all - as well as the 7 other categories with pagination and the themes that didn't manage to find themselves in a category with pagination.

I stand to argue that a user would much rather come to a site - see the category "Interface" - go into the single subcategory "Themes" and see right off the bat that there are 7 pages of themes... that is all they are committed to seeing - 7 pages. Not 7 pages with an additional 6 pages while waiting for the subcategory pages to load.

Which is why I am suggesting that the themes are not put into subcategories at all.

There will be the search function - which will be working if I have to sit at my computer and recieve them all and go find them for the users - as well as the alphabetical filter, date filter, and all tthat for users who know what they are looking for.

Would it be possible to add an addon to several categories? For example, a module could be providing a new editor, and at the same time have functionality for content management?

Also, most systems keep themes and modules/plugins separated. People search for those two things with different expectations :modules need to describe functionality (text), themes need to show layouts (images).

It might be an idea to start thinking of taking the themes out of the addons site.
