Addons... or downloads? The point was made to me the other day that the name "addons" for the download site may confuse some users.... and that downloads.impresscms.org may be a more suited url.
However - thinking about this further - the "downloads" name is better suited for a central location for downloading all types of files from documents to core... So - lets get some feedback on this. We could easily change the name pre-launch of the site, and by adding a redirect form old to new url.... |

Re: Addons... or downloads?I like downloads...its kind of a standard and people know what to expect. But that's just me.

Re: Addons... or downloads?'Downloads' is more general, but might suggest impressCMS itself can be downloaded from here instead of from SourceForge.
'Addons' suggest: modules, themes, editors. Maybe its best to name it 'downloads' and add an 'addons' section to it. |

Re: Addons... or downloads? The suggestion has been made via msn to also make the core downloadable as well... although I'd have to re-organise the 3 x 3 layout a little :(

Re: Addons... or downloads?I'm in favor of using downloads - and it should contain all the various things that can be downloaded. It should be simple enough to add a block or section pointing to the downloads of the core from SF.net

Re: Addons... or downloads?Citaat:
Yes, good idea, similar to the block on the frontpage of impresscms.org. |

Re: Addons... or downloads? That block should be on the frontpage of impressCMS Addons/Downloads site. It's graphically good and a ood eyecatcher for visitors.
Actually it should be on every xxx.impresscms.org frontpage. |

Re: Addons... or downloads?Currently we have the categories in place for:
* Documents * Editors: Alternative editors * Extentions: Frameworks, Happy Linux etc * Languages (Core): Which will link to the relevant sourceforge location * Languages (Module): Module language files * Libraries: (code that can be inserted into the 1.1 Library structure) * Modules * Themes * Templates (Perhaps renamed layouts) Later tonight i'll add the download block as suggested here. I am thinking "downloads" fits the site name better.... |

Re: Addons... or downloads?Sure sounds like the site is going to be a big success. I can't wait to get a look at it. I maybe a little late on this one but downloads makes the most sense to me.

Re: Addons... or downloads? After much thinking about it, I think we should stick with Addons :
- Addons, or expansions, shows it extends ImpressCMS - Downloads, sounds little dull and boring... - The site is already all setup as addons... If we change it, then we delay the launch for a few days, likely a week - All links pointing to addons, will need to be changed All in all, addons vs downloads is pretty much the same, but right now, everything is setup with addons, so why change and loose more time. I know I was in favor of downloads earlier, but everyone can change minds |
