Alternatives to XOOPSAn interesting entry in the 'xoopswiki' - http://www.xoops.org/modules/mediawiki/index.php/Alternatives_to_using_XOOPS
Quote:
Except for the ones using ImpressCMS  Most likely an attempt to garner some search results, not to be honest about the situation We'll see what kind of reaction this gets - http://www.xoops.org/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Alternatives_to_using_XOOPS&curid=961&oldid=2982 |

Re: Alternatives to XOOPSHow do you find this stuff Skenow? When I look at that wiki my eyes glaze over and I just move on....I don't even know what it is for anymore.

Re: Alternatives to XOOPSAs a follow on, is that why you guys went with Mediawiki? The whole layout is so busy with the Mediawiki module for XOOPS.
It is so important to make things readable. In fact, there is a lot of content that is probably useful on the XOOPS wiki but the format simply makes it a non-starter in my opinion. Is there a better XOOPS Wiki module? I am hoping that the one Giba is working on makes its way around soon and has a nice feel to it. Seth |

Re: Alternatives to XOOPSThe purpose of the mediawiki on the whoops site is to keep BS busy creating a page for everyone that links to their profile page. There isn't any actual informative content within those pages.

Re: Alternatives to XOOPSQuote:
To quote from a post I made at XoopsModDev: "a) Upgradability - the xoops's version uses a hacked version of MediaWiki - which limits how easy it is to update .. not to mention the plugins which are essential for its usage. b) Security - The current XOOPS version is several versions behind the live release of MediaWiki .. XOOPS users should know particularly about the security risk from obsolete versions c) Speed - The stand alone version is faster then the XOOPS reelase d) Future proof - With the best intention in the world, how can we guarantee how soon - if at all - the next release of a module-ised version will appear? Not forgetting that thanks to recent work with OpenID - XOOPSWiki will soon be able to be integrate with a XOOPS OpenID login anyway" This still applies with ImpressCMS as well of course |

That would be very nice. I always try to use modules because, at work in particular, people cannot maintain one password much less two or three passwords. Quote:

Re: Alternatives to XOOPSI'll give myself a reminder to add this to the wiki (openid) as soon as possible
Then it's up to the core people to implement it into ImpressCMS at their earliest convenience |

Same here. It is a huge mess. Is there a central category listing anywhere? Very difficult to find anything. Quote:
That drives me crazy. I looked at a few profile links but most just pointed to content on Xoops End User. I think someone likes to use it to promote their own site. And a lot of the non-profile pages are posted completely empty! |
