We need a test site

In few days our first final release will be ready. It is very important and promotion is need.
Of course, a good way is opensourcems.com, but about Xoops in that page there are some comments as:
Quote:

Couldn't find anywhere to add new pages in the demo, so I'm as confused as Brian Haines.
Can't recommend this CMS.

How can you say that it is 'Very Easy' to use? I can't even figure out how to make a new page using the demo! I can add a Block to an existing page, but how do I add a page?

A demo is very important (in my opinion). But in opensourcecms will be our package in SF...without modules. We need show our improvements (new administration, multilenguage etc) and offer possibilities to who try test our release.
Perhaps a new test site with some modules could help to us....

Re: We need a test site

A long while ago - Snow (with a tiny help from me) spent a lot of time on a demo site for the "other project".... this got put to one side when other issues came up... but essentially what we had in planned was similar to what you mean.

I think a test site is possible...

Re: We need a test site

Totally agree... how dificult it can be??? very secure by the server... not exec files... no uploads... some of the common modules... a cron deleting and restoring the database every night...
what else?

Re: We need a test site

Demo site created: http://demo.impresscms.org. Using the latest impresscms_1.0 branch.

Nekro has all the access information and will start adding modules and themes. Any help will be more then welcome.

I will ensure the site is secure and will work with nekro and others to create the cron job that would erase the data end put the clean one in every hour.

Re: We need a test site

The idea of the demo site... is to be in as many languages as posible... and have as many modules and themes as posible... to make the community able to test all we have...

Please... post all the known compatible modules... and all the themes... that you would like to see in the test site...

Re: We need a test site

I would suggest we use multimenu - or something similar - to split up the modules... perhaps also splitting up alpha and final releases?

Nekro - give me a shout later as I have some ideas on this score...

Re: We need a test site

Personally, I don't think we should demo things that are not completed, or else create an "alphademo" site...

Our official demo site will be the place where people are more likely to test ImpressCMS for the first time. If something does not work, we loose this potential user. This is why it needs to be perfectly functional.

Re: We need a test site

A valid point. Although obviously we can show the final versions of Giba's modules there

Re: We need a test site

It may be just a difference in terms, but I would consider a test site different from a demo site. Test being for development and testing, demo for a public demonstration of finished products.

Skenow is right... i think that here we are making a demo site... not a testing one. I am waiting for the list of modules and themes!!!

Re: We need a test site

About the list of modules only the modules that we had tested and run without problems on ICMS must be included (compatible modules) right?
es.impresscms.org are using quietly: protector, altsys, news, smartsection, d3forum, liaise, wf-download, mastop, xoopscare, xoopsinfo, smartobject and sitemap.
More In this site: newbb, planet and smartpartner

Re: We need a test site

Modules I have installed on active sites with iCMS -

Protector
blocksadmin/altsys
News
CBB
Planet
Article
Formulize
Wiwimod
WF-Downloads
RSSFit
Tags
xcGallery
WF-Links
Sitemap
PiCal
XoopsInfo

For a demo site, I would create separate menus for each of the different types of modules, following the categories for the addons site (Galleries: xcGallery, MyAlbum-P, extGallery; Forums: d3forum, newbbex, cbb; Content: News, SmartSection, SmartContent, Article, Articles, Mastop Publish, Wiwimod/xicWiki; Links: WF-Links, SmartPartner, WebLinks; and so on)

I would also create a feature comparison for each group - system requirements (PHP, MySQL compatibilities, GD, ImageMagick, NetPBM), environment requirements (register_globals, safe_mode, fopen) using one of the content modules. This could be part of the wiki and we could add links to download the particular modules, but I also think it valuable to be able to download the module directly after previewing it on the demo site.

Just can not stay away

Re: We need a test site

I'm surprised to see a few things,
and even more surprised that i done see a few things.

Is this test site for the mods and admins of ICMS, or is it for the masses?

If for the masses, the following questions apply.

The list of modules "working modules" is a good thing.
But they are not visible to a guest...

What about a list of "working free themes"

A timer to show how much time is left until the site restarts "Refreshes".

What about the ability to log in and a user or admin?

Knowing others don't play fair, some re writing of a few files will need to be done to insure they cant completely turn of the site.
( Ive got the old indestructible Xsite vers.2.0.16)along with a few others..

Can you explain what you mean with indesctructible Xsite
Is it just X or a modified version of X?

Sorry if it seems like a lame question, not completely awake yet.

Marc hosted test sites for X that automatically reinstalled/refreshed every hour. That way new users could get a peak at the admin and everything else before they decided to jump in with both feet.

Very cool and useful feature that could be used here at impress.
