Re: GoPHP5I would say start using php5 only stuff right from the beginning. Simply because this is a new start and then be upfront with on the front page. (that download box for the core system should mention in small text some requirements)
Seriously how many people are we really talking about that would not have access to php5 now? Don´t go for the half-baken solution and limit the development to keep compatability to php4. It will only bind additional ressource to fix things now with forced php4 compatability in the core and then in 8 months go back and rewrite it again the way you would actually do it already today if you could. There are better things you can do 8 months in the future. Might sound a bit arrogant against those that are actually forced to php4 without the option to quickly change to php5 but truth to be told: They have a problem with their hoster and not impressCMS. I personally could not name one person i know that would not have access to php5 with their hosting. Just my 0.02 cents. |

Re: GoPHP5Is there some way we can accurately measure how many people would be adversely affected?
Would a poll accomplish this? ----- My web server runs PHP4, and it is not feasible for me to upgrade the server to PHP5, nor is it feasible for me to switch to another server that runs PHP5. [ ] Yes (I need PHP4-compatibility) [ ] No (I do not need PHP4-compatibility) |

Re: GoPHP5Quote:
Dave i don´t think so. Do you remember the poll akitson started some time ago? Number of responses was very low. Also chances are that those affected by being forced to php4 by their hoster are actually the non regular users. The people really involved with their site and webstuff i would think will be on proper hosting space. Just an assumption though. |
